hipster hunter?

July 21, 2008

has anyone seen this website?
http://hipsterhunter.com/IV.html

it’s basically a bunch of portmanteaux combining an offensive word with the word “hipster”.

what is up with the hatred toward these quote, unquote hipsters? this movement seemed to have started about 5 years ago, and it seems is only growing.
why all put all this attention and energy forth toward people that you supposedly loathe?
seems back-ass-ward, if you ask me.

well, anyway, if you’re into hipster-hating as much as the next hipster, check out the website; it’s sure to get at least a chuckle outta ya.

Seattle sensations - Romance - rocks King Cobra

June 18, 2008

on june 8th, i went to seel local band, Romance at seattle’s new rock club, King Cobra. this is the band of a couple of old friends of mine drew j. and dave b. i have known drew and dave for the entire 6 years i have lived in seattle, & i have never been so impressed as i was this june evening.
drew’s an excellent front man, & together, they seem to command & enrapture their audience.
this band has a terrific following, comprised of friends and those who have heard of them via word of mouth & myspace.
Romance’s sound is the love child of Bauhaus and The Chameleons. this love child, however, was meant to be.
check them out at www.myspace.com/romance!

here are some photos i took of the band:

oh, and here’s a photo of some fashion disasters that i, somehow, by the grace of god, caught in 1 photograph:

Please note the horrible, red hooker boots & white stretch capris. UGH!!

and last, but certainly now least, here’s one of my bestest friends, lee, look spectacular that evening:

sing sing???

June 6, 2008

so, for those of you not in the know, Ossining, NY houses a state prision known for being extremely violent. like, inmates-killing-guards-type violent, & it has been nicknamed ‘sing sing’. i am pretty sure that this place is still active, & if it is, then there are some inmates that be peepin’ my myspace profile!
whoa! my popularity must be soaring if even those who are incarcerated have heard of me!
just kidding.

speaking of sing sing, an aquaintance of mine, clayton vomero, aka, ‘dj pretty titty’ runs a night here in seattle called ‘sing sing’. it’s every first and third friday of the month, & tomorrow is his birthday. go and call him old!

Requiem for a Dream: Review - SPOILER ALERT!!

June 6, 2008

ok, what? who likes this shit? i remember watching this when it came out like a millions years ago & finding it amazing, yet disturbing. the “ass to ass” scene i remember being traumatic to watch, but i barely even noticed it this time around. is this because i’ve become desensitized, or is this movie just poorly made, pretending to have cutting edge cinematography, & i am now old enough to recognize it?
tigga, please!
what’s up with the split-screen business?? it’s the same fucking frame with a thick, black line drawn down the middle!
ok, ok, i get it, the theme of the movie is that everyone in it has their “fix”.
great, now what? mom watches TV; the son does heroine. so??? take a walk down to coney island with a hand-held video camera and film your own version of this bullshit any day of the week.
ugh, the more i write about this, the more i am pissed off that i bought this movie, & now will have to lose money on selling it to the neighborhood used DVD store.

honestly, the only reason i bought this movie in the first place was cos i remember thinking it was cool when their pupils dilated, & i like [movies about] drugs…

ok, first things first: Sex and the Shitty - The Movie SPOILER ALERT!!

June 3, 2008

ok, i must admit that i have watched every episode, on DVD, of the poorly-crafted, pseduo-cleverly written television series. and i even spent money that i really didn’t have on the admission fee to see the movie. [honestly, i went mostly so i could have movie theatre popcorn and fountain cherry coke.] all the while, still mocking the shit out of this show, so the natural progression would be to, like the majority of the female and gay male population, go to the theatre and see this fluff blockbuster!

throughout the television series, i constantly thought to myself, “how is it that 4 educated, intelligent, supposedly-cultured New York women have only men, sex, clothes, shoes and drinks to discuss? i mean one of them has their juris doctorate from Harvard, for christ’s sake!” i also had thoughts that this show was giving women a bad rap. i mean, i talk my fair share of girly game, but i wish these women were not represented as so vapid.

now, 4ish years later, all that could run through my mind was, “how are these middle-aged women gonna pull off that bullshit for 2+ hours?”
this time, the focus was different, it was mostly about “the relationship”; granted, sex, shoes & designers came up, but they took the back burner to the relationship nucleus - definitely more age appropriate.
also, they seemed to, by the end of the 2.5 hours, achieve the impossible: carrie - pinned down big, charlotte - got pregnant, miranda - stopped thinking of herself for once & samantha - well, samantha reverted back to the samantha we all knew in days of yore, except she now has a dog that humps everything - how novel.

this movie neither disappointed nor impressed me; honestly, i left the theatre feeling exactly what i expected to feel: unenlightened, yet slightly amused & entertained.

i would give this movie an A for effort, but probably a C+, [the “+” is me being generous] overall.

June 3, 2008

ME! that’s right; me, lily moriarty, will be posting on the daily [or weekly at least] about music, fashion or just plain rants all the way from seattle, & the majority of these posts will be seattle-centric.
my first posts are to come, & they will be on local band, Daguerreotypes, as well as Australian band, The Presets.

i am going to try to not focus too much on electronic music, but that tends to be the trend lately. [but if you want to know my real opinion, i have a feeling organic rock is on its way back into the spotlight..]

more to come…soon!
