Honestly, what I really want the answer to is how on earth Die Antwoord, Cape Town, South Africa’s newest export, went from internet obscurity to to a US bi-coastal visitation, to opening for headlining act 2MANYDJs Saturday evening at Coachella’s Sahara rave tent (which by the way was LEGIT-OR-WUSSUP!!) to booking HARD LA featuring respected headlining acts such as M.I.A., Flying Lotus and N.E.R.D. Annnnd please tell me how is it that they’re now piecing together a WORLD FRIGGIN’ TOUR! Names and numbers please… I. Want. To. Know.
If you haven’t familiarized yourself with this trio, please do so now! Die Antwoord’s got a strange inexplicable vice grip on audiences across the globe, from Yo Landi Vi$$er’s futuristic disco pixie hairdo, and Ninja’s intense mind piercing stare and flat top hair to DJ Hi-Tek’s next level beats, it’s hard to avert one’s gaze. And guess what? Their very first performance on US soil was at none other than Dim Mak Tuesdays at Cinespace! Choice landing spot, Die Antwoord! 40 million fans ‘round the world eagerly await as tour dates and locations from Europe to North America are solidified but until then, peep the remix!

Every once and a while a “Slanted And Enchanted” track comes up on my iPod and I think, “Wow, that is such a great record!” … it happened this morning so I thought that video is so cool - I remember when my friends and I heard about this tape circulating in NYC by the band Pavement (people who usually could care less were freaking out) … if you were lucky enough to have one of the 7” or 10” EPs (Perfect Sound Forever) on Drag City you saw names like Spiral Stairs & SM … it was totally odd and cool … When I first heard Summer Babe I said, “Wow, finally someone found a way to channel Velvet Underground!” … I always felt that most bands that channeled VU did a great job of getting the sound but lost out on the great song writing - on Summer Babe Pavement gets it all right (what is amazing is the way the drums follow everything else - I heard that Gary Young did his drum parts AFTER the music done - don’t know if it is true but I love the idea/story) … so without further talk … the Summer Babe video

I was driving to the office today and heard a cover of this Thomas Dolby classic on the radio:
and to my surprise the cover was by motherfuckin’ Sondre Lerche! I thought I recognized the voice, but the cover was more XTC meets Buzzcocks at a new wave concert. WTF. I just bought the song on iTunes. BBQ.
